چکیده

The codling moth, Cydia pomonella L. (Tortricidae), is a major pest of apples, potentially causing annual losses exceeding USD62 billion globally. Growers have limited options for combatting the moth. Sprays with azinphos-methyl been banned in European Union, Turkey, and USA. To be effective, Bacillus thuringiensis or Carpocapsa must ingested large quantities, fruit damaged before larvae die. Mating disruption an attract-and-kill strategy does not resolve problems caused by migration moths from adjacent areas insecticide resistance. Discouraging neonates burrowing into feeding deterrents repellents plant origin may become new strategy. This paper presents list twenty-three plants six secondary metabolites preventing apple infestation moth neonates. Some these extracts oils (Alium sativum, Tanacetum vulgare, Atremisia arborescens, Ginkgo biloba) showed deterrence 95% comparison to controls. prospects control botanicals are discussed, further studies on substances suggested. In conclusion, author states that twenty-nine plant-originated materials great potential organic protection. Future should concentrate formulating identifying their molecular targets.

Codling moth management and chemical ecology.

Lepidopteran insects use sex pheromones to communicate for mating. Olfactory communication and mate-finding can be prevented by permeating the atmosphere with synthetic pheromone. Pheromone-mediated mating disruption has become a commercially viable pest management technique and is used to control the codling moth, Cydia pomonella, a key insect pest of apple, on 160,000 ha worldwide. The codlin...

Resistance Management Update on Organophosphate Resistance in Codling Moth

In 2003, organophosphate (Guthion) resistance was surveyed in codling moth from populations throughout Washington State. Populations were collected using pheromone traps during first and second flights from apple and pear and sampled for Guthion resistance using the standard adult topical bioassay. Select populations were also sampled for pyrethroid and chloronicotinyl resistance. All orchards ...

Efficacy of Nitric Oxide Fumigation for Controlling Codling Moth in Apples

Nitric oxide (NO) fumigation under ultralow oxygen (ULO) conditions was studied for its efficacy in controlling codling moth and effects on postharvest quality of apples. NO fumigation was effective against eggs and larvae of different sizes on artificial diet in 48 h treatments. Small larvae were more susceptible to nitric oxide than other stages at 0.5% NO concentration. There were no signifi...

Postharvest treatment to control codling moth in fresh apples using water assisted radio frequency heating

Apples destined for export to Japan and South Korea are currently disinfested for codling moth, Cydia pomonella L. (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae), using methyl bromide fumigation. Restrictions and limitations imposed on the uses of methyl bromide have increased interest in developing alternative non-chemical quarantine treatments. It is imperative that the treatment is effective against codling mot...
